Where can I find an online tutorial for how to paint a watercolor japanese Cherry Blossom tree?
I am looking for an online step-by-step instructional or video tutorial on how to paint a japanese style cherry blossom tree with watercolor paints. Please help and thanks ahead of time!
I have looked on youtube extensively already. There are Plum Blossom tutorials but not any cherry blossom tutes. And while they are similar, they are not the same... And I like pics that have the wind blowing slightly and you can tell because some of the petals are flying through the air. That is what I am trying to acheive sort of...
Look on Youtube or-->
Try just viewing a cherry blossom tree reference pic...paint stems...then the blossoms.
Here's a good reference pic of a painting like that to which you refer.
Stretch your paper first.
I suggest you use 140 pound hot press. It's smoother and will allow u more control of the medium.

Experimenting with art? help needed?
hi, i am experimenting with different things as a medium for art. For example i experimented with mixing coffee powder with acrylic, mixing oil with chinese ink, and even use mud and wet clay to paint. If you have any ideas on things that i can use, do enlighten me, bizarre ones are welcome.
um, cocoa powder is a nice shade of brown, and smells great too, maybe that'll work.
You could try mixing short threads in paint to get a fun texture, colored thread might show through thin paint too making it look more interesting.
Sand is always fun, you'll find great diversity in sand throughout the world and they are all so beautiful (yeh, I might just be weird!).
mmm, nail polish, maybe?
I don't know, I hope this helps.
It sounds like you'll be having a lot of fun, have some for me - I'd love to be doing what you are!

What is the name/artist of an Asian print? Land of 1,000 Peaks?
I took an Asian Art History class in college, and there was a print called "Land of 1,000 Peaks" or possibly "Land of 10,000 Peaks" featured in our textbook. It was a beautiful print that I think was done by a Japanese artist. It was Very Old and it kind of looked like a sketch of mountain ranges. But I cannot seem to find it anywhere on the internet, and I've been searching for close to 6 years. Does anyone know the name of the artist, correct title and where I can buy a copy? Thanks!
Well, off the top of my head, the great Hokusai's "36 Views of Mount Fuji" and "100 Views of Mount Fuji" occur to me. Is it possible that you saw one of the prints from these series?

Lacquer
what is the difference between regular lacquer and the 3d lacquer used in crafts?
Stampin Up! carries Crystal effects and CTMH carries glass lacquer. Both give a 3d effect when dryed but both are expensive. Why wouldn't regular lacquer found by shellacs in a hardware store work as well?
"Stampin Up! carries Crystal effects and CTMH carries glass lacquer. Both give a 3d effect when dryed but both are expensive. Why wouldn't regular lacquer found by shellacs in a hardware store work as well?"
I am looking for a "doomed" effect.
I'm not familiar with those brands, but there are "dimensional glues" made by various companies which sound similar. If true, then the difference would be that the dimensional glues "dome" when applied whereas regular clear finishes would remain flat. (2-part epoxy resins will cure a little rounded on the very edges of an item if it's poured on top and allowed to drip off the edges, but the very center will still be flat).
So it depends on just what effect you want to create. When you say "3-D", do you mean the clear layer itself is dimensional, or just that what's underneath it becomes more dimensional looking with a thick layer of clear finish on top?
If it's the latter, then any polyurethane or other acrylic sealer including clear fingernail polish will work the same (and can be applied in layers)... acrylic mediums, clear embossing powders like UTEE, and even thinned white glues (decoupage mediums) can do the same thing but are somewhat more scratchable.
HTH,
Diane B.
